The Almack-s Adieu Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDE FGFHIEJE KFIDFEFE HLHLIEIE

Your Fanny was never false heartedA
And this she protests and she vowsB
From the triste moment when we partedA
On the staircase of Devonshire HouseC
I blushed when you asked me to marryD
I vowed I would never forgetE
And at parting I gave my dear HarryD
A beautiful vinegaretteE
-
We spent en province all DecemberF
And I ne'er condescended to lookG
At Sir Charles or the rich county memberF
Or even at that darling old DukeH
You were busy with dogs and with horsesI
Alone in my chamber I satE
And made you the nicest of pursesJ
And the smartest black satin cravatE
-
At night with that vile Lady FrancesK
Je faisois moi tapisserieF
You danced every one of the dancesI
And never once thought of poor meD
Mon pauvre petit coeur what a shiverF
I felt as she danced the last setE
And you gave O mon Dieu to revive herF
My beautiful vinegaretteE
-
Return love away with coquettingH
This flirting disgraces a manL
And ah all the while you're forgettingH
The heart of your poor little FanL
Reviens break away from those CircesI
Reviens for a nice little chatE
And I've made you the sweetest of pursesI
And a lovely black satin cravatE
