Serenade Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDEF GHIH JFJF

Now the toils of day are overA
And the sun hath sunk to restB
Seeking like a fiery loverA
The bosom of the blushing westB
-
The faithful night keeps watch and wardC
Raising the moon her silver shieldD
And summoning the stars to guardE
The slumbers of my fair MathildeF
-
The faithful night Now all things lieG
Hid by her mantle dark and dimH
In pious hope I hither hieI
And humbly chant mine ev'ning hymnH
-
Thou art my prayer my saint my shrineJ
For never holy pilgrim kneel'dF
Or wept at feet more pure than thineJ
My virgin love my sweet MathildeF
