Atra Cura Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCADD EFFGHH IIJJKK

Before I lost my five poor witsA
I mind me of a Romish clerkB
Who sang how Care the phantom darkC
Beside the belted horseman sitsA
Methought I saw the grisly spriteD
Jump up but now behind my KnightD
-
And though he gallop as he mayE
I mark that cursed monster blackF
Still sits behind his honor's backF
Tight squeezing of his heart alwayG
Like two black Templars sit they thereH
Beside one crupper Knight and CareH
-
No knight am I with pennoned spearI
To prance upon a bold destrereI
I will not have black Care prevailJ
Upon my long eared charger's tailJ
For lo I am a witless foolK
And laugh at Grief and ride a muleK
