Wardour Castle Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACDDCEEFFGHIIJJKK

If rich designs of sumptuous art may pleaseA
Or Nature's loftier views august and oldB
Stranger behold this spreading scene beholdB
This amphitheatre of aged treesA
That solemn wave above thee and aroundC
Darken the towering hills Dost thou complainD
That thou shouldst cope with penury or painD
Or sigh to think what pleasures might be foundC
Amid such wide possessions Pause awhileE
Imagine thou dost see the sick man smileE
See the pale exiles that in yonder domeF
Safe from the wasteful storm have found a homeF
And thank the Giver of all good that lentG
To the humane retired beneficentH
The power to bless Nor lift thy heart elateI
If such domains be thine but emulateI
The fair example and those deeds that riseJ
Like holy incense wafted to the skiesJ
Those deeds that shall sustain the conscious soulK
When all this empty world hath perished like a scrollK
