The Village Bells. (from The Villager's Verse-book.) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GDHD

Who does not love the village bellsA
Their cheerful peal and solemn tollB
One of the rustic wedding tellsA
And one bespeaks a parting soulB
-
The lark in sunshine sings his songC
And dressed in garments white and gayD
The village lasses trip alongC
For this is Susan's wedding dayD
-
Ah gather flowers of sweetest hueE
Young violets from the bank's green sideF
And on poor Mary's coffin strewE
For in the bloom of life she diedF
-
So passes life the smile the tearG
Succeed as in our path we strayD
Thy kingdom come for we are hereH
As guests who tarry but a dayD
