The Shepherd And His Dog. (from The Villager's Verse-book.) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD BEBF DGDG HDID

My dog and I are both grown oldA
On these wild downs we watch all dayB
He looks in my face when the wind blows coldA
And thus methinks I hear him sayB
-
The gray stone circlet is belowC
The village smoke is at our feetD
We nothing hear but the sailing crowC
And wandering flocks that roam and bleatD
-
Far off the early horseman hiesB
In shower or sunshine rushing onE
Yonder the dusty whirlwind fliesB
The distant coach is seen and goneF
-
Though solitude around is spreadD
Master alone thou shalt not beG
And when the turf is on thy headD
I only shall remember theeG
-
I marked his look of faithful careH
I placed my hand on his shaggy sideD
There is a sun that shines aboveI
A sun that shines on both I criedD
