The Blind Man Of Salisbury Cathedral. (from The Villager's Verse-book.) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACDEFEFGGHEEHIIJJ

There is a poor blind man who every dayA
In summer sunshine or in winter's rainB
Duly as tolls the bell to the high faneB
Explores with faltering footsteps his dark wayA
To kneel before his Maker and to hearC
The chaunted service pealing full and clearD
Ask why alone in the same spot he kneelsE
Through the long year Oh the wide world is coldF
As dark to him Here he no longer feelsE
His sad bereavement Faith and Hope upholdF
His heart he feels not he is poor and blindG
Amid the unpitying tumult of his mindG
As through the aisles the choral anthems rollH
His soul is in the choirs above the skiesE
And songs far off of angel companiesE
When this dim earth hath perished like a scrollH
Oh happy if the rich the vain the proudI
The plumed actors in life's motley crowdI
Since pride is dust and life itself a spanJ
Would learn one lesson from a poor blind manJ
