The Bells, Ostend. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABBACDDCEFFGHIHow sweet the tuneful bells' responsive peal | A |
As when at opening morn the fragrant breeze | B |
Breathes on the trembling sense of pale disease | B |
So piercing to my heart their force I feel | A |
And hark with lessening cadence now they fall | C |
And now along the white and level tide | D |
They fling their melancholy music wide | D |
Bidding me many a tender thought recall | C |
Of summer days and those delightful years | E |
When from an ancient tower in life's fair prime | F |
The mournful magic of their mingling chime | F |
First waked my wondering childhood into tears | G |
But seeming now when all those days are o'er | H |
The sounds of joy once heard and heard no more | I |
