A PICTURESQUE COTTAGE AND GROUNDS BELONGING TO J LEMON ESQA
-
Stranger mark this lovely sceneB
When the evening sets sereneB
And starting o'er the silent woodC
The last pale sunshine streaks the floodD
And the water gushing nearE
Soothes with ceaseless drip thine earF
Then bid each passion sink to restG
Should ev'n one wish rise in thy breastG
One tender wish as now in mineH
That some such quiet spot were thineH
And thou recalling seasons fledI
Couldst wake the slumbers of the deadI
And bring back her you loved to shareJ
With thee calm peace and comfort thereJ
Oh check the thought but inly prayK
To HE 'who gives and takes away '-
That many years this fair domainL
Its varied beauties may retainL
So when some wanderer who has lostM
His heart's best treasure who has crossedM
In life bleak hills and passes rudeN
Should gain this lovely solitudeN
Delighted he may pause a whileO
And when he marks the landscape smileO
Leave with its willows ere he partP
The blessings of a softened heartP
