On The Death Of Rev. William Benwell, M.a. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACDDEFGGFHI

Thou camest with kind looks when on the brinkA
Almost of death I strove and with mild voiceB
Didst soothe me bidding my poor heart rejoiceB
Though smitten sore Oh I did little thinkA
That thou my friend wouldst the first victim fallC
To the stern King of Terrors Thou didst flyD
By pity prompted at the poor man's cryD
And soon thyself were stretched beneath the pallE
Livid infection's prey The deep distressF
Of her who best thy inmost bosom knewG
To whom thy faith was vowed thy soul was trueG
What powers of faltering language shall expressF
As friendship bids I feebly breathe my ownH
And sorrowing say Pure spirit thou art goneI
