Inscriptions In The Gardens Of Bremhill Rectory Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BBAACD A EEFG H IIAAAA I IIJJDC

ON A TREE COMMANDING A VIEW OF THE WHOLE EXTENT OF BOWOODA
-
When in thy sight another's vast domainB
Spreads its long line of woods dost thou complainB
Nay rather thank the God that placed thy stateA
Above the lowly but beneath the greatA
And still His name with gratitude revereC
Who blessed the Sabbath of thy leisure hereD
-
ON A RURAL SEATA
-
Rest stranger in this decorated sceneE
That hangs its beds of flowers its slopes so greenE
So from the walks of life the weeds removeF
But fix thy better hopes on scenes aboveG
-
ON THE FRONT OF A HERMITAGE NEAR A DIALH
-
To mark life's few and fleeting hoursI
I placed the dial 'midst the flowersI
Which one by one came forth and diedA
Still withering by its ancient sideA
Mortals let the sight impartA
Its pensive moral to thy heartA
-
QUIETI ET MUSISI
-
Be thine Retirement's peaceful joysI
And a life that makes no noiseI
Save when Fancy musing longJ
Wakes her desultory songJ
Sounding to the vacant earD
Like the rill that murmurs nearC
