Epitaph On Benjamin Tremlyn, An Old Soldier, Buried In Bremhill Churchyard At The Age Of 92 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDEEFFGGHHII

A poor old soldier shall not lie unknownA
Without a verse and this recording stoneA
'Twas his in youth o'er distant lands to strayB
Danger and death companions of his wayB
Here in his native village drooping ageC
Closed the lone evening of his pilgrimageD
Speak of the past of names of high renownE
Or his brave comrades long to dust gone downE
His eye with instant animation glowedF
Though ninety winters on his head had snowedF
His country whilst he lived a boon suppliedG
And faith her shield held o'er him when he diedG
Hope Christian that his spirit lives with GodH
And pluck the wild weeds from his lowly sodH
Where dust to dust beside the chancel's shadeI
Till the last trumpet sounds a brave man's bones are laidI
