That hopped about with but one eye | B |

Ofttimes since then their private lives | C |
Have spoilt that joy their music gives | C |

Like a red apple on the bough | D |
And question why he sings so strong | E |
For love or for the love of song | E |
Or sings maybe for that sweet rill | F |
Whose silver tongue is never still | F |

Ah now there comes this thought unkind | G |
Born of the knowledge in my mind | G |
He sings in triumph that last night | H |
He killed his father in a fight | H |
And now he'll take his mother's blood | I |
The last strong rival for his food | J |
