The Sleepers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCD AEFEGG GGHGII GBJKGG

As I walked down the watersideA
This silent morning wet and darkB
Before the cocks in farmyards crowedA
Before the dogs began to barkB
Before the hour of five was struckC
By old Westminster's mighty clockD
-
As I walked down the watersideA
This morning in the cold damp airE
I saw a hundred women and menF
Huddled in rags and sleeping thereE
These people have no work thought IG
And long before their time they dieG
-
That moment on the watersideG
A lighted car came at a boundG
I looked inside and saw a scoreH
Of pale and weary men that frownedG
Each man sat in a huddled heapI
Carried to work while fast asleepI
-
Ten cars rushed down the watersideG
Like lighted coffins in the darkB
With twenty dead men in each carJ
That must be brought alive by workK
These people work too hard thought IG
And long before their time they dieG
