And shiver in their flesh and soul | A |
They lie on hard cold wood or stone | B |
Iron and ache in every bone | B |
They hate the night they see no eyes | C |
Of loved ones in the starlit skies | C |
They see the cold dark water near | D |
They dare not take long looks for fear | D |
They'll fall like those poor birds that see | E |
A snake's eyes staring at their tree | E |
Some of them laugh half mad and some | F |
All through the chilly night are dumb | F |
Like poor weak infants some converse | G |
And cough like giants deep and hoarse | H |
