Children At Play Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBD EFGFH IJKJK KLMLM| I hear a merry noise indeed | A |
| Is it the geese and ducks that take | B |
| Their first plunge in a quiet pond | C |
| That into scores of ripples break | B |
| Or children make this merry sound | D |
| - | |
| I see an oak tree its strong back | E |
| Could not be bent an inch though all | F |
| Its leaves were stone or iron even | G |
| A boy with many a lusty call | F |
| Rides on a bough bareback through Heaven | H |
| - | |
| I see two children dig a hole | I |
| And plant in it a cherry stone | J |
| We'll come to morrow one child said | K |
| And then the tree will be full grown | J |
| And all its boughs have cherries red | K |
| - | |
| Ah children what a life to lead | K |
| You love the flowers but when they're past | L |
| No flowers are missed by your bright eyes | M |
| And when cold winter comes at last | L |
| Snowflakes shall be your butterflies | M |
