Is it the geese and ducks that take | B |
Their first plunge in a quiet pond | C |
That into scores of ripples break | B |
Or children make this merry sound | D |

I see an oak tree its strong back | E |
Could not be bent an inch though all | F |
Its leaves were stone or iron even | G |
A boy with many a lusty call | F |
Rides on a bough bareback through Heaven | H |

I see two children dig a hole | I |
And plant in it a cherry stone | J |
We'll come to morrow one child said | K |
And then the tree will be full grown | J |
And all its boughs have cherries red | K |

Ah children what a life to lead | K |
You love the flowers but when they're past | L |
No flowers are missed by your bright eyes | M |
And when cold winter comes at last | L |
Snowflakes shall be your butterflies | M |
