April's Charms Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EFGH IIAA

When April scatters charms of primrose goldA
Among the copper leaves in thickets oldA
And singing skylarks from the meadows riseB
To twinkle like black stars in sunny skiesB
-
When I can hear the small woodpecker ringC
Time on a tree for all the birds that singC
And hear the pleasant cuckoo loud and longD
The simple bird that thinks two notes a songD
-
When I can hear the woodland brook that couldE
Not drown a babe with all his threatening moodF
Upon these banks the violets make their homeG
And let a few small strawberry vlossoms comeH
-
When I go forth on such a pleasant dayI
One breath outdoors takes all my cares awayI
It goes like heavy smoke when flames take holdA
Of wood that's green and fill a grate with goldA
