Chiming a dream by the wayA
With ocean's rapture and roarB
I met a maiden to dayA
Walking alone on the shoreB
Walking in maiden wiseC
Modest and kind and fairD
The freshness of spring in her eyesC
And the fulness of spring in her hairD
-
Cloud shadow and scudding sun burstE
Were swift on the floor of the seaF
And a mad wind was romping its worstE
But what was their magic to meF
Or the charm of the midsummer skiesC
I only saw she was thereD
A dream of the sea in her eyesC
And the kiss of the sea in her hairD
-
I watched her vanish in spaceG
She came where I walked no moreB
But something had passed of her graceG
To the spell of the wave and the shoreB
And now as the glad stars riseC
She comes to me rosy and rareD
The delight of the wind in her eyesC
And the hand of the wind in her hairD
