In Hospital - Xxvii - Nocturn Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFCG HIJJ FDDK

At the barren heart of midnightA
When the shadow shuts and opensB
As the loud flames pulse and flutterC
I can hear a cistern leakingD
-
Dripping dropping in a rhythmE
Rough unequal half melodiousF
Like the measures aped from natureC
In the infancy of musicG
-
Like the buzzing of an insectH
Still irrational persistentI
I must listen listen listenJ
In a passion of attentionJ
-
Till it taps upon my heartstringsF
And my very life goes drippingD
Dropping dripping drip drip droppingD
In the drip drop of the cisternK
