Casualty Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGH GAGI EDAJ GKGE

As with varnish red and glisteningA
Dripped his hair his feet looked rigidB
Raised he settled stiffly sidewaysC
You could see his hurts were spinalD
-
He had fallen from an engineE
And been dragged along the metalsF
It was hopeless and they knew itG
So they covered him and left himH
-
As he lay by fits half sentientG
Inarticulately moaningA
With his stockinged soles protrudedG
Stark and awkward from the blanketsI
-
To his bed there came a womanE
Stood and looked and sighed a littleD
And departed without speakingA
As himself a few hours afterJ
-
I was told it was his sweetheartG
They were on the eve of marriageK
She was quiet as a statueG
But her lip was grey and writhenE
