Welcome Cross Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJKJLMLM

'Tis my happiness belowA
Not to live without the crossB
But the Saviour's power to knowA
Sanctifying every lossB
Trials must and will befallC
But with humble faith to seeD
Love inscribed upon them allC
This is happiness to meD
-
God in Israel sows the seedsE
Of affliction pain and toilF
These spring up and choke the weedsE
Which would else o'erspread the soilF
Trials make the promise sweetG
Trials give new life to prayerH
Trials bring me to His feetG
Lay me low and keep me thereH
-
Did I meet no trials hereI
No chastisement by the wayJ
Might I not with reason fearK
I should prove a castawayJ
Bastards may escape the rodL
Sunk in earthly vain delightM
But the true born child of GodL
Must not would not if he mightM
