To William Hayley, Esq. June 29, 1793. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABCADEFEGG

Dear architect of fine Chateaux in airA
Worthier to stand for ever if they couldB
Than any built of stone or yet of woodB
For back of royal elephant to bearA
Oh for permission from the skies to shareA
Much to my own though little to thy goodB
With thee not subject to the jealous moodC
A partnership of literary wareA
But I am bankrupt now and doomed henceforthD
To drudge in descant dry on others' laysE
Bards I acknowledge of unequalled worthF
But what is commentator's happiest praiseE
That he has furnished lights for other eyesG
Which they who need them use and then despiseG
