The Valley Of The Shadow Of Death Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDE FGFG HIHI JKJK

My soul is sad and much dismay'dA
See Lord what legions of my foesB
With fierce Apollyon at their headC
My heavenly pilgrimage opposeB
-
See from the ever burning lakeD
How like a smoky cloud they riseE
With horrid blasts my soul they shakeD
With storms of blasphemies and liesE
-
Their fiery arrows reach the markF
My throbbing heart with anguish tearG
Each lights upon a kindred sparkF
And finds abundant fuel thereG
-
I hate the thought that wrongs the LordH
Oh I would drive it from my breastI
With Thy own sharp two edged swordH
Far as the east is from the westI
-
Come then and chase the cruel hostJ
Heal the deep wounds I have receivedK
Nor let the power of darkness boastJ
That I am foil'd and Thou art grievedK
