The Sower Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC DEDF GHGI JKJK LMNM OAOA

Matthew xiiiA
-
Ye sons of earth prepare the ploughB
Break up your fallow groundC
The sower is gone forth to sowB
And scatter blessings roundC
-
The seed that finds a stony soilD
Shoots forth a hasty bladeE
But ill repays the sower's toilD
Soon wither'd scorch'd and deadF
-
The thorny ground is sure to balkG
All hopes of harvest thereH
We find a tall and sickly stalkG
But not the fruitful earI
-
The beaten path and highway sideJ
Receive the trust in vainK
The watchful birds the spoil divideJ
And pick up all the grainK
-
But where the Lord of grace and powerL
Has bless'd the happy fieldM
How plenteous is the golden storeN
The deep wrought furrows yieldM
-
Father of mercies we have needO
Of thy preparing graceA
Let the same Hand that give me seedO
Provide a fruitful placeA
