The Soul That Loves God Finds Him Everywhere Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABC DEFF GGHH IIJJ KKLL MMNN OOAA DEPP HHQR

O thou by long experience triedA
Near whom no grief can long abideA
My love how full of sweet contentB
I pass my years of banishmentC
-
All scenes alike engaging proveD
To souls impressed with sacred loveE
Where'er they dwell they dwell in theeF
In heaven in earth or on the seaF
-
To me remains nor place nor timeG
My country is in every climeG
I can be calm and free from careH
On any shore since God is thereH
-
While place we seek or place we shunI
The soul finds happiness in noneI
But with a God to guide our wayJ
'Tis equal joy to go or stayJ
-
Could I be cast where thou art notK
That were indeed a dreadful lotK
But regions none remote I callL
Secure of finding God in allL
-
My country Lord art thou aloneM
Nor other can I claim or ownM
The point where all my wishes meetN
My law my love life's only sweetN
-
I hold by nothing here belowO
Appoint my journey and I goO
Though pierced by scorn oppressed by prideA
I feel thee good feel nought besideA
-
No frowns of men can hurtful proveD
To souls on fire with heavenly loveE
Though men and devils both condemnP
No gloomy days arise from themP
-
Ah then to his embrace repairH
My soul thou art no stranger thereH
There love divine shall be thy guardQ
And peace and safety thy rewardR
