The Shining Light Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFGH IJIK LMLM

My former hopes are fledA
My terror now beginsB
I feel alas that I am deadA
In trespasses and sinsB
-
Ah whither shall I flyC
I hear the thunder roarD
The Law proclaims Destruction nighC
And Vengeance at the doorD
-
When I review my waysE
I dread impending doomF
But sure a friendly whisper saysG
Flee from the wrath to comeH
-
I see or think I seeI
A glimmering from afarJ
A beam of day that shines for meI
To save me from despairK
-
Forerunner of the sunL
It marks the pilgrim's wayM
I'll gaze upon it while I runL
And watch the rising dayM
