Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDDEEFFGGGGHHGGII JJGGKKLLMMNNGGOODD

Thus says the prophet of the TurkA
Good Mussulman abstain from porkB
There is a part in every swineC
No friend of follower of mineC
May taste whate'er his inclinationD
On pain of excommunicationD
Such Mahomet's mysterious chargeE
And thus he left the point at largeE
Had he the sinful part express'dF
They might with safety eat the restF
But for one piece they thought it hardG
From the whole hog to be debarr'dG
And set their wit at work to findG
What joint the prophet had in mindG
Much controversy straight aroseH
These choose the back the belly thoseH
By some 'tis confidently saidG
He meant not to forbid the headG
While others at that doctrine railI
And piously prefer the tailI
Thus conscience freed from every clogJ
Mahometans eat up the hogJ
You laugh 'tis well the tale appliedG
May make you laugh on t'other sideG
Renounce the world the preacher criesK
We do a multitude repliesK
While one as innocent regardsL
A snug and friendly game at cardsL
And one whatever you may sayM
Can see no evil in a playM
Some love a concert or a raceN
And others shooting and the chaseN
Reviled and loved renounced and follow'dG
Thus bit by bit the world is swallow'dG
Each thinks his neighbour makes too freeO
Yet likes a slice as well as heO
With sophistry their sauce they sweetenD
Till quite from tail to snout 'tis eatenD
