The Ice Palace Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPMQRP SPTUMPPJPVQWXLess worthy of applause though more admired | A |
Because a novelty the work of man | B |
Imperial mistress of the fur clad Russ | C |
Thy most magnificent and mighty freak | D |
The wonder of the North No forest fell | E |
When thou wouldst build no quarry sent its stores | F |
To enrich thy walls but thou didst hew the floods | G |
And make thy marble of the glassy wave | H |
Silently as a dream the fabric rose | I |
No sound of hammer or of saw was there | J |
Ice upon ice the well adjusted parts | K |
Were soon conjoined nor other cement asked | L |
Than water interfused to make them one | M |
Lamps gracefully disposed and of all hues | N |
Illumined very side a watery light | O |
Gleamed through the clear transparency that seemed | P |
Another moon new risen or meteor fallen | M |
From Heaven to Earth of lambent flame serene | Q |
So stood the brittle prodigy though smooth | R |
And slippery the materials yet frostbound | P |
Firm as a rock Nor wanted aught within | S |
That royal residence might well befit | P |
For grandeur or for use Long wavy wreaths | T |
Of flowers that feared no enemy but warmth | U |
Blushed on the panels Mirror needed none | M |
Where all was vitreous but in order due | P |
Convivial table and commodious seat | P |
What seemed at least commodious seat were there | J |
Sofa and couch and high built throne august | P |
The same lubricity was found in all | V |
And all was moist to the warm touch a scene | Q |
Of evanescent glory once a stream | W |
And soon to slide into a stream again | X |
