The Ice Palace Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPMQRP SPTUMPPJPVQWX

Less worthy of applause though more admiredA
Because a novelty the work of manB
Imperial mistress of the fur clad RussC
Thy most magnificent and mighty freakD
The wonder of the North No forest fellE
When thou wouldst build no quarry sent its storesF
To enrich thy walls but thou didst hew the floodsG
And make thy marble of the glassy waveH
Silently as a dream the fabric roseI
No sound of hammer or of saw was thereJ
Ice upon ice the well adjusted partsK
Were soon conjoined nor other cement askedL
Than water interfused to make them oneM
Lamps gracefully disposed and of all huesN
Illumined very side a watery lightO
Gleamed through the clear transparency that seemedP
Another moon new risen or meteor fallenM
From Heaven to Earth of lambent flame sereneQ
So stood the brittle prodigy though smoothR
And slippery the materials yet frostboundP
Firm as a rock Nor wanted aught withinS
That royal residence might well befitP
For grandeur or for use Long wavy wreathsT
Of flowers that feared no enemy but warmthU
Blushed on the panels Mirror needed noneM
Where all was vitreous but in order dueP
Convivial table and commodious seatP
What seemed at least commodious seat were thereJ
Sofa and couch and high built throne augustP
The same lubricity was found in allV
And all was moist to the warm touch a sceneQ
Of evanescent glory once a streamW
And soon to slide into a stream againX
