The Heart Healed And Changed By Mercy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDED FGFGHIJK LMLNOPOP

Sin enslaved me many yearsA
And led me bound and blindB
Till at length a thousand fearsA
Came swarming o'er my mindB
Where said I in deep distressC
Will these sinful pleasures endD
How shall I secure my peaceE
And make the Lord my friendD
-
Friends and ministers said muchF
The gospel to enforceG
But my blindness still was suchF
I chose a legal courseG
Much I fasted watch'd and stroveH
Scarce would shew my face abroadI
Fear'd almost to speak or moveJ
A stranger still to GodK
-
Thus afraid to trust His graceL
Long time did I rebelM
Till despairing of my caseL
Down at His feet I fellN
Then my stubborn heart He brokeO
And subdued me to His swayP
By a simple word He spokeO
Thy sins are done awayP
