Stanzas Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A B CC DE BFBF GCGC CHCH IJIJ KLKM NONO PQPR STST UVUV

Subjoined To The Yearly Bill Of Mortality Of The Parish Of All Saints Northampton Anno DominiA
-
-
Composed for John Cox parish clerk of NorthamptonB
-
-
Pallida mors quo pulsat pede pauperum tabernasC
Regumque turres HoraceC
-
-
Pale death with equal foot strikes wide the doorD
Of royal halls and hovels of the poorE
-
-
While thirteen moons saw smoothly runB
The Nen's barge laden waveF
All these life's rambling journey doneB
Have found their home the graveF
-
-
Was man frail always made more frailG
Than in foregoing yearsC
Did famine or did plague prevailG
That so much death appearsC
-
-
No these were vigorous as their siresC
Nor plague nor famine cameH
This annual tribute Death requiresC
And never waves his claimH
-
-
Like crowded forest trees we standI
And some are mark'd to fallJ
The axe will smite at God's commandI
And soon shall smite us allJ
-
-
Green as the bay tree ever greenK
With its new foliage onL
The gay the thoughtless have I seenK
I pass'd and they were goneM
-
-
Read ye that run the awful truthN
With which I charge my pageO
A worm is in the bud of youthN
And at the root of ageO
-
-
No present health can health ensureP
For yet an hour to comeQ
No medicine though it oft can cureP
Can always balk the tombR
-
-
And O that humble as my lotS
And scorn'd as is my strainT
These truths though known too much forgotS
I may not teach in vainT
-
-
So prays your clerk with all his heartU
And ere he quits the penV
Begs you for once to take his partU
And answer all AmenV
