Sonnet To Henry Cowper, Esq. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBC ADDA EFGEFG

Cowper whose silver voice tasked sometimes hardA
Legends prolix delivers in the earsB
Attentive when thou read'st of England's peersB
Let verse at length yield thee thy just rewardC
-
Thou wast not heard with drowsy disregardA
Expending late on all that length of pleaD
Thy generous powers but silence honoured theeD
Mute as e'er gazed on orator or bardA
-
Thou art not voice alone but hast besideE
Both heart and head and couldst with music sweetF
Of attic phrase and senatorial toneG
Like thy renowned forefathers far and wideE
Thy fame diffuse praised not for utterance meetF
Of others' speech but magic of thy ownG
