Retirement Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EAEA FGHI JKLK MNON HDHD

Far from the world O Lord I fleeA
From strife and tumult farB
From scenes where Satan wages stillC
His most successful warD
-
The calm retreat the silent shadeE
With prayer and praise agreeA
And seem by Thy sweet bounty madeE
For those who follow TheeA
-
There if Thy Spirit touch the soulF
And grace her mean abodeG
Oh with what peace and joy and loveH
She communes with her GodI
-
There like the nightingale she poursJ
Her solitary laysK
Nor asks a witness of her songL
Nor thirsts for human praiseK
-
Author and Guardian of my lifeM
Sweet source of light DivineN
And all harmonious names in oneO
My Saviour Thou art mineN
-
What thanks I owe Thee and what loveH
A boundless endless storeD
Shall echo through the realms aboveH
When time shall be no moreD
