Prayer For Patience Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGHG IJIJ KLKM NONO

Lord who hast suffer'd all for meA
My peace and pardon to procureB
The lighter cross I bear for TheeA
Help me with patience to endureB
-
The storm of loud repining hushC
I would in humble silence mournD
Why should the unburnt though burning bushE
Be angry as the crackling thornD
-
Man should not faint at Thy rebukeF
Like Joshua falling on his faceG
When the cursed thing that Achan tookH
Brought Israel into just disgraceG
-
Perhaps some golden wedge suppress'dI
Some secret sin offends my GodJ
Perhaps that Babylonish vestI
Self righteousness provokes the rodJ
-
Ah were I buffeted all dayK
Mock'd crown'd with thorns and spit uponL
I yet should have no right to sayK
My great distress is mine aloneM
-
Let me not angrily declareN
No pain was ever sharp like mineO
Nor murmur at the cross I bearN
But rather weep remembering ThineO
