Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD CECE FGHG IJKJ LMEM

Bestow dear Lord upon our youthA
The gift of saving graceB
And let the seed of sacred truthA
Fall in a fruitful placeB
-
-
Grace is a plant where'er it growsC
Of pure and heavenly rootD
But fairest in the youngest showsC
And yields the sweetest fruitD
-
-
Ye careless ones O hear betimesC
The voice of sovereign loveE
Your youth is stain'd with many crimesC
But mercy reigns aboveE
-
-
True you are young but there's a stoneF
Within the youngest breastG
Or half the crimes which you have doneH
Would rob you of your restG
-
-
For you the public prayer is madeI
Oh join the public prayerJ
For you the secret tear is shedK
Oh shed yourselves a tearJ
-
-
We pray that you may early proveL
The Spirit's power to teachM
You cannot be too young to loveE
That Jesus whom we preachM
