Peace After A Storm Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFGF HIJI DKLK MFNF

When darkness long has veil'd my mindA
And smiling day once more appearsB
Then my Redeemer then I findA
The folly of my doubts and fearsB
-
Straight I upbraid my wandering heartC
And blush that I should ever beD
Thus prone to act so base a partC
Or harbour one hard thought of TheeD
-
Oh let me then at length be taughtE
What I am still so slow to learnF
That God is love and changes notG
Nor knows the shadow of a turnF
-
Sweet truth and easy to repeatH
But when my faith is sharply triedI
I find myself a learner yetJ
Unskilful weak and apt to slideI
-
But O my Lord one look from TheeD
Subdues the disobedient willK
Drives doubt and discontent awayL
And Thy rebellious worm is stillK
-
Thou art as ready to forgiveM
As I am ready to repineF
Thou therefore all the praise receiveN
Be shame and self abhorrence mineF
