On The Promotion Of Edward Thurlow, Esq. To The Lord High Chancellorship Of England. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGI JKJK

Round Thurlow's head in early youthA
And in his sportive daysB
Fair Science pour'd the light of truthA
And Genius shed his raysB
-
-
See with united wonder criedC
The experienced and the sageD
Ambition in a boy suppliedC
With all the skill of ageD
-
-
Discernment eloquence and graceE
Proclaim him born to swayF
The balance in the highest placeE
And bear the palm awayF
-
-
The praise bestow'd was just and wiseG
He sprang impetuous forthH
Secure of conquest where the prizeG
Attends superior worthI
-
-
So the best courser on the plainJ
Ere yet he starts is knownK
And does but at the goal obtainJ
What all had deem'd his ownK
