On The Loss Of The Royal George Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC BDED FDGD BHDI JKLK MNON PQPQ DNRS HRDC

Written when the news arrivedA
-
Toll for the braveB
The brave that are no moreC
All sunk beneath the waveB
Fast by their native shoreC
-
Eight hundred of the braveB
Whose courage well was triedD
Had made the vessel heelE
And laid her on her sideD
-
A land breeze shook the shroudsF
And she was oversetD
Down went the Royal GeorgeG
With all her crew completeD
-
Toll for the braveB
Brave Kempenfelt is goneH
His last sea fight is foughtD
His work of glory doneI
-
It was not in the battleJ
No tempest gave the shockK
She sprang no fatal leakL
She ran upon no rockK
-
His sword was in its sheathM
His fingers held the penN
When Kempenfelt went downO
With twice four hundred menN
-
Weigh the vessel upP
Once dreaded by our foesQ
And mingle with our cupP
The tears that England owesQ
-
Her timbers yet are soundD
And she may float againN
Full charged with England's thunderR
And plough the distant mainS
-
But Kempenfelt is goneH
His victories are o'erR
And he and his eight hundredD
Shall plough the wave no moreC
