On Observing Some Names Of Little Note Recorded In The Biographia Britannica Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EFGHIJ

Oh fond attempt to give a deathless lotA
To names ignoble born to be forgotA
In vain recorded in historic pageB
They court the notice of a future ageB
Those twinkling tiny lustres of the landC
Drop one by one from Fame's neglecting handC
Leth an gulfs receive them as they fallD
And dark oblivion soon absorbs them allD

-
So when a child as playful children useE
Has burnt to tinder a stale last year's newsF
The flame extinct he views the roving fireG
There goes my lady and there goes the squireH
There goes the parson oh illustrious sparkI
And there scarce less illustrious goes the clerkJ
