On Envy (from The Greek) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGG

Pity says the Theban bardA
From my wishes I discardA
Envy let me rather beB
Rather far a theme for theeB
Pity to distress is shownC
Envy to the great aloneC
So the Theban But to shineD
Less conspicuous be mineD
I prefer the golden meanE
Pomp and penury betweenE
For alarm and peril waitF
Ever on the loftiest stateF
And the lowest to the endG
Obloquy and scorn attendG

William Cowper
