To Jesus the crown of my hopeA
My soul is in haste to be goneB
O bear me ye cherubim upC
And waft me away to His throneD
-
My Saviour whom absent I loveE
Whom not having seen I adoreF
Whose name is exalted aboveE
All glory dominion and powerG
-
Dissolve thou these bonds that detainH
My soul from her portion in theeI
Ah strike off this adamant chainH
And make me eternally freeI
-
When that happy era beginsJ
When arrayed in Thy glories I shineK
Nor grieve any more by my sinsJ
The bosom on which I reclineK
-
Oh then shall the veil be removedL
And round me Thy brightness be pour'dM
I shall meet Him whom absent I lovedN
Shall see Him whom unseen I adoredM
-
And then never more shall the fearsO
The trials temptation and woesP
Which darken this valley of tearsQ
Intrude on my blissful reposeP
-
Or if yet remember'd aboveE
Remembrance no sadness shall raiseR
They will be but new signs of Thy loveE
New themes for my wonder and praiseR
-
Thus the strokes which from sin and from painH
Shall set me eternally freeI
Will but strengthen and rivet the chainH
Which binds me my Saviour to TheeI
