Olney Hymn 53: My Soul Thirsteth For God Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHIJ BKBK

I thirst but not as once I didA
The vain delights of earth to shareB
Thy wounds Emmanuel all forbidA
That I should seek my pleasures thereB
-
It was the sight of Thy dear crossC
First wean'd my soul from earthly thingsD
And taught me to esteem as drossC
The mirth of fools and pomp of kingsD
-
I want that grace that springs from TheeE
That quickens all things where it flowsF
And makes a wretched thorn like meE
Bloom as the myrtle or the roseF
-
Dear fountain of delight unknownG
No longer sink below the brimH
But overflow and pour me downI
A living and life giving streamJ
-
For sure of all the plants that shareB
The notice of thy Father's eyeK
None proves less grateful to His careB
Or yields him meaner fruit than IK
