Olney Hymn 51: Lively Hope And Gracious Fear Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHGH IJIJ KLML NOPQ

I was a grovelling creature onceA
And basely cleaved to earthB
I wanted spirit to renounceC
The clod that gave me birthB
-
But God hath breathed upon a wormD
And sent me from aboveE
Wings such as clothe an angel's formF
The wings of joy and loveE
-
With these to Pisgah's top I flyG
And there delighted standH
To view beneath a shining skyG
The spacious promised landH
-
The Lord of all the vast domainI
Has promised it to meJ
The length and breadth of all the plainI
As far as faith can seeJ
-
How glorious is my privilegeK
To Thee for help I callL
I stand upon a mountain's edgeM
O save me lest I fallL
-
Though much exalted in the LordN
My strength is not my ownO
Then let me tremble at His wordP
And none shall cast me downQ
