Olney Hymn 34: The Waiting Soul Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDF GHGH IJIJ KLML NOPO

Breathe from the gentle south O LordA
And cheer me from the northB
Blow on the treasures of thy wordC
And call the spices forthB
-
I wish Thou knowest to be resign'dD
And wait with patient hopeE
But hope delay'd fatigues the mindD
And drinks the spirits upF
-
Help me to reach the distant goalG
Confirm my feeble kneeH
Pity the sickness of a soulG
That faints for love of TheeH
-
Cold as I feel this heart of mineI
Yet since I feel it soJ
It yields some hope of life divineI
Within however lowJ
-
I seem forsaken and aloneK
I hear the lion roarL
And every door is shut but oneM
And that is Mercy's doorL
-
There till the dear Deliverer comeN
I'll wait with humble prayerO
And when He calls His exile homeP
The Lord shall find him thereO
