Olney Hymn 26: On Opening A Place For Social Prayer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDE FFGG HHII JKLM NOPQ

Jesus where'er Thy people meetA
There they behold Thy mercy seatA
Where'er they seek Thee Thou art foundB
And every place is hallow'd groundB
-
For Thou within no walls confinedC
Inhabitest the humble mindC
Such ever bring Thee where they comeD
And going take Thee to their homeE
-
Dear Shepherd of Thy chosen fewF
Thy former mercies here renewF
Her to our waiting hearts proclaimG
The sweetness of Thy saving nameG
-
Here may we prove the power of prayerH
To strengthen faith and sweeten careH
To teach our faint desires to riseI
And bring all Heaven before our eyesI
-
Behold at Thy commanding wordJ
We stretch the curtain and the cordK
Come Thou and fill this wider spaceL
And bless us with a large increaseM
-
Lord we are few but Thou art nearN
Nor short Thine arm nor deaf Thine earO
Oh rend the heavens come quickly downP
And make a thousand hearts Thine ownQ
