Olney Hymn 23: Pleading For And With Youth Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED AFAF GHIH JKLM CNE

Sin has undone our wretched raceA
But Jesus has restoredB
And brought the sinner face to faceA
With his forgiving LordB
-
This we repeat from year to yearC
And press upon our youthD
Lord give them an attentive earE
Lord save them by Thy truthD
-
Blessings upon the rising raceA
Make this a happy hourF
According to Thy richest graceA
And thine Almighty powerF
-
We feel for your unhappy stateG
May you regard it tooH
And would a while ourselves forgetI
To pour our prayer for youH
-
We see though you perceive it notJ
The approaching awful doomK
Oh tremble at the solemn thoughtL
And flee the wrath to comeM
-
Dear Saviour let this new born yearC
Spread an alarm abroadN
And cry in every careless earE
'Prepare to meet thy God '-
