Olney Hymn 14: Jehovah-shammah Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEFG HIJK LMLM GN N

As birds their infant brood protectA
And spread their wings to shelter themB
Thus saith the Lord to His electA
'So will I guard Jerusalem 'C
-
And what then is JerusalemD
This darling object of His caresE
Where is its worth in God's esteemF
Who built it who inhabits thereG
-
Jehovah founded it in bloodH
The blood of His incarnate SonI
There dwell the saints once foes to GodJ
The sinners whom He calls His ownK
-
There though besieged on every sideL
Yet much beloved and guarded wellM
From age to age they have defiedL
The utmost force of earth and hellM
-
Let earth repent and hell despairG
This city has a sure defenceN
Her name is call'd 'The Lord is there '-
And who has power to drive him henceN
