Jealous and with love o'erflowingA
God demands a fervent heartB
Grace and bounty still bestowingA
Calls us to a grateful partB
-
Oh then with supreme affectionC
His paternal will regardD
If it cost us some dejectionC
Every sigh has its rewardE
-
Perfect love has power to softenC
Cares that might our peace destroyF
Nay does more transforms them oftenC
Changing sorrow into joyF
-
Sovereign Love appoints the measureG
And the number of our painsH
And is pleased when we find pleasureG
In the trials he ordainsH
