Two Poets poets by reportA
Not oft so well agreeB
Sweet harmonist of Flora's courtA
Conspire to honour theeB
-
-
They best can judge a poet's worthC
Who oft themselves have knownD
The pangs of a poetic birthC
By labours of their ownD
-
-
We therefore pleased extol thy songE
Though various yet completeF
Rich in embellishment as strongE
And learned as 'tis sweetF
-
-
No envy mingles with our praiseG
Though could our hearts repineD
At any poet's happier laysG
They would they must at thineD
-
-
But we in mutual bondage knitH
Of friendship's closest tieI
Can gaze on even Darwin's witH
With an unjaundiced eyeI
-
-
And deem the Bard whoe'er he beB
And howsoever knownD
Who would not twine a wreath for theeB
Unworthy of his ownD
