Exodus xviiA
-
By whom was David taughtB
To aim the deadly blowC
When he Goliath foughtB
And laid the Gittite lowC
Nor sword nor spear the stripling tookD
But chose a pebble from the brookD
-
'Twas Israel's God and KingE
Who sent him to the fightF
Who gave him strength to slingE
And skill to aim arightF
Ye feeble saints your strength enduresG
Because young David's God is yoursG
-
Who order'd Gideon forthH
To storm the invaders' campI
With arms of little worthJ
A pitcher and a lampI
The trumpets made his coming knownK
And all the host was overthrownK
-
Oh I have seen the dayF
When with a single wordF
God helping me to sayF
My trust is in the LordF
My soul hath quell'd a thousand foesL
Fearless of all that could opposeL
-
But unbelief self willM
Self righteousness and prideF
How often do they stealN
My weapon from my sideF
Yet David's Lord and Gideon's friendF
Will help his servant to the endF
