The saints should never be dismay'dB
Nor sink in hopeless fearC
For when they least expect His aidB
The Saviour will appearC

This Abraham found he raised the knifeD
God saw and said ForbearC
Yon ram shall yield his meaner lifeD
Behold the victim thereC

Once David seem'd Saul's certain preyC
But hark the foe's at handE
Saul turns his arms another wayC
To save the invaded landE
-
When Jonah sunk beneath the waveF
He thought to rise no moreC
But God prepared a fish to saveF
And bear him to the shoreC
-
Blest proofs of power and grace divineG
That meet us in His wordH
May every deep felt care of mineG
Be trusted with the LordI
-
Wait for His seasonable aidB
And though it tarry waitJ
The promise may be long delay'dB
But cannot come too lateJ
